Environmental Quote
"We must build a peace in south Florida -- a peace between the people and their place, between the natural environment and man-made settlement, between the creek and the canal, between the works of man and the life of mankind itself." Reubin Askew

What's New!

FRPA Announces Joe Abrahams Academy for Leadership Excellence in Parks and Recreation

This intensive training experience is intended for individuals seeking career advancement from the managerial level to a visionary, leadership role within the parks and recreation profession.  The program will require advance reading and assignments, attendance at all sessions, and post-session assignments to be completed in group discussion.

The Academy will go beyond a traditional educational session.  It will be an opportunity for you to explore and develop your leadership ability, and to then create a personal leadership advancement plan for yourself.  It isn’t for the weak at heart.  Educational offerings will force personal introspection, group interactivity, and individual assessment.

Remember the first time you visited a high altitude.  Overcome with a slight feeling of dizziness, maybe a bit blurred vision, thinking you would never be able to drink enough fluids?  This experience will re-create that feeling - one hundred fold.  When you land at the conclusion of the experience you will be thrilled with the journey and won't want to wait until you can begin again!

Florida's Leadership Profile Tool Now Available On-Line

Have you ever wondered how you “measure up” to others in the field of parks and recreation?  What skills have today’s leaders identified as those that are necessary to catapult you to the top?  FRPA’s Parks and Recreation Leadership Skills Profile provides you direct answers to these questions.

How do I get started?
Complete the Leadership Skills Profile Enrollment Form and return it to the FRPA Executive Office.  When the payment is processed, we will email you a login and password, as well as a link to the website.  Just that easy, login and measure your skills.

So what do I do with the information?  Once you complete your profile, you will receive an individual report.  We encourage you to review the report.  We also suggest that you share the report with your supervisor, or a mentor – someone who will work with you to address any areas where improvement may be needed, and celebrate your success in the areas where you excel.  The tool is intended to provide for increased professional growth.
