| • (22) Temporary Full-Time Head Counselors (8/23/2010 – 06/09/2010) $9 - $11/hr, DOQ as follows: POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for those programs assigned to them as well as supervising a group of approximately 15 children. Reports to the After School Program Supervisor. Must be available to work school days from 12:00pm – 6:00pm (schedule hours will be flexible); Teacher Planning Days; Winter Break (December 20th – December 31st); Spring Camp (March 14th – March 18th); and other special events as requested. POSITION SCOPE: After School activities at the City of Sunny Isles Beach may include, but are not limited to, athletic and sports-related events, arts and craft, music, and life skills. Position incumbent supports City sponsored programs; provides supervision with related activities, and must maintain effective working relationships with teammates, program participants, children and/or parents, as necessary. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Plan, develop and administer activities to include sports, hobbies, drama, team games and arts & crafts for the After School Program. • Administer first aid, if necessary • Ensure supervisor is updated orally, or in writing, on all activities and is kept informed of any related issues. • If required, perform facility maintenance, i.e. garbage disposal or cleaning up. • Instruct children in the various activities providing guidance and coaching as necessary. • Maintain adequate inventory of program or recreational activity supplies. • Perform other related duties as assigned. • Prepare lesson planning for each day of the program • Prepare and break down the program area for the different activities, ensuring safety and security. • Track the participants’ attendance. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: • Ability to work well with children. • Ability to be friendly and courteous at all times when working with the children, customers and staff. • Ability to be creative with activities for the children. • Ability to delegate tasks to assistants. • Ability to take direction from supervisory staff. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish effective working relationship with children, adults and coworkers. | Qualifications: | |||
| REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High School diploma required ? Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as education, recreation or physical education preferred ? Minimum of one year of related experience working with children preferably in a summer camp or after school program environment; or any acceptable combination of education and experience. LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS: American Red Cross CPR AND First Aid certification must be obtained within 30 days of the date of hire. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS: Individual’s sensory modalities (vision & hearing) and physical capabilities (ambulation, strength, coordination, dexterity, range of motion) must be sufficient to perform the Essential Functions of the Position ? Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Fingerprints and VECHS background check required ? Florida Driver’s License may be required ? Must be available to work at least 90% of after school program duration. |
